Play list of Sounds of the Sixties January 28th 2012 Brian Matthew presents the programme for all fans of the music of the 1960s on BBC Radio 2. Sounds Of The Sixties began in 1983 and Brian Matthews has been at the helm since 1990, bringing to the programme his distinctive voice and unmatchable experience of sixties music. This is a playlist of records for this particular week, with a tick link to the 7 inch vinyl records I may still have for sale in my collection. The underlined link of the records Title will take you to Amazon where you can usually purchase a vinyl record, cassette, Audio CD, video, book, MP3 Download or video of the selection.
This week's edition has all the stories and facts behind records by The Shangri-Las, Helen Shapiro, The Artistics, The Escorts, Scott Walker, Georgie Fame, Marcie Blane, Nancy Sinatra, Sandie Shaw, Perry Como, Sam Cooke, Louise Cordet and one of our old time favourites by Walter Brennan - Old Rivers. The BBC archive session comes from Free and was recorded in 1969 for Top Gear. The Loose Connections features three tracks with a link to Prince Charles - and admittedly it is a fairly loose connection! The answer song replies to Neil Sedaka's Breaking Up Is Hard To Do and is by Tina Powers. All in all a great two journey through pop's golden decade, only on BBC Radio 2.
